FIRST Robotics Team 2404 needs your support

FIRST Robotics Team 2404 provides free hands-on robotics education to students in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, with mentoring from professional engineers. The team was founded in 2008 by Neighbors Empowering Youth, an award-winning non-profit which provides computers and technical classes for the broader community.

In the fall season, students learn and practice critical engineering skills including programming, electronics, shop tools, physics, mechanical engineering, computer-aided design, prototyping, and more. From January through April, students put those skills to the test by competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Under strict rules and with limited time and resources, our team is challenged to build an industrial-size robot to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams. Along the way, students also learn important soft skills including leadership, project management, communications, fundraising, branding, and we help advance STEM within the local community. Experienced and older students are encouraged to coach and lead newer and younger students, creating a virtuous cycle of development and growth.

The generous donations of our sponsors enable us to offer this opportunity at no cost to all students, regardless of which school they attend. This helps us provide equitable and diverse access to STEM. Our technical mentoring team includes several professional engineers from local institutions, including Caltech and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with backgrounds in advanced robotics research, development and operations of space missions, and more.

Why You Should Give
The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people together to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding experience and a lot of fun. The competition shows students that the basic concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) are exciting and hold many opportunities.

Cost breakdown of what we need to raise for our robotics team :

(Fall project electronics kits to teach our students electronics) $1,000

(Shop tools drills, drill bits, sanders, and more) $2,000
Travel for local competition $2,000
(Robot parts for spring competition) $3,000
(Field part mockups) $1,000
(Food/drink for three days of the competition) $1,000
(Team t-shirts) $1,000
(Championship reserves) $15,000

With our NASA JPL Sponsorship which pays for our registration, we are $5K towards our $33K goal with $28K remaining”
